Latoya Lucile Mwoombola – LIONESS

Latoya Lucile Mwoombola – LIONESS

A Versatile Artist With Star Quality

It can be easy to overlook the amount of glaring talent that presents itself in Namibia’s music

industry.

‍

With the recent surge of incredible talent that we’ve been spoiled with, La-Toya

Mwoombola AKA “Lioness“ has really been a true standout amongst her peers. One thing you’ll

definitely notice when listening to her music is that she’s certainly called Lioness for a reason.

‍

My own introduction to her discography came from her incredible 2019 single “Tala” and what an

introduction it was. In one track she was able to display her incredible range and versatility. Using a

nonchalant yet confident nuance in her delivery, she was able to bring across her message in an

almost anthemic tone, spurring women to back track from toxic relationships and assert their own

independence.

I headed into her debut studio album “Pride of CilQ” with a lot of anticipation and I definitely was not disappointed. A fresh fusion of hip hop and afrobeat; she elegantly boasts some fantastic production and her innate lyrical ability coupled with impressively creative flow. Including features from big-hitters such as Skrypt, Kp Illest and many more, it’s a fantastic introduction to her artistry as she pays homage to her background and leaves her fans excited for more.

‍

Her latest LP is “Wish You Were Here”. Released in 2020, the 12-song album has Lioness show a

more vulnerable side to her persona as she revisits experiences with her past lovers. Compared to

her prior LP, the album is more afrobeat centric. The LP has some great genre additions such as

afrohouse as displayed in the track “Lovin” and a standout amapiano-influenced track;“ILA”.

‍

It’s exciting to see her try new things with her music while still being able to emphasize her amazing

vocal range and lyrical ability.

‍

I think the sky’s the limit for Lioness and I’m more than excited for her future in the music industry
