Rising Entrepreneur: The Journey of Rebekka Alfeus and the Challenges of Small Businesses

Rising Entrepreneur: The Journey of Rebekka Alfeus and the Challenges of Small Businesses

In today’s competitive job market, securing a job immediately after graduation can be a daunting task. Rebekka Alfeus, born and raised in Ongwediva, embarked on an entrepreneurial journey driven by her passion for baking. Her dream of owning her own bakery fuels her determination to overcome obstacles. This article delves into Rebekka’s journey and sheds light on the challenges faced by small businesses that often go unrecognized.

    ~The Beginnings of a Passion:

Rebekka Alfeus discovered her passion for baking at a young age. Despite the stress of ensuring her cakes matched her visions, she found baking to be a therapeutic experience. In 2013, she baked her first-ever cake, a delectable Fanta orange-flavored creation for her family. The success of this endeavormotivated her to further pursue her baking aspirations.

    ~Expanding the Business:

In 2015, Rebekka made the courageous decision to expand her baking business into the market sector. This expansion aimed to generate income and support her family. What sets Rebekka apart is her unwavering determination to contribute financially and meet her mother halfway. Unlike many children who rely solely on their parents for support, Rebekka constantly sought new ideas to generate income and improve their circumstances.

    ~Challenges and Resilience:

Like all business owners, Rebekka encountered numerous challenges along the way. One of her biggest hurdles in the early days was the lack of clients. Despite this setback, she remained undeterred. During her high school years, Rebekka had to pause her baking business to focus on her academics. However, once she entered university, she resumed her entrepreneurial endeavors. Although her first year saw a scarcity of customers, she did not let it discourage her.

    ~Venturing into New Territories:

In 2020, during her second year of university, Rebekka realized that her baking business was not thriving as expected. Undeterred by the situation, she decided to explore new opportunities and started a cleaning agency named “Riah’s Cleaning Agency.” With her penchant for cleanliness and the need for additional income, this venture seemed like a natural fit. After designing a captivating poster for her agency, her first customer, a satisfied student, materialized. However, the following month proved challenging as business quieted, adding stress to her life.

    ~Overcoming Adversity:

Martin Pandu Nankela once said, “Stop calling your business a side hustle; it’s very disrespectful. That business, if managed and scaled properly, could be your key to generational wealth.” Inspired by these words, Rebekka refused to undermine her vision and treated her ventures as multi-million-dollar businesses with the potential to contribute to society’s betterment. A turning point came when a friend asked her to design a poster for their business. Following this, Rebekka began attracting more clients, enabling her to meet her financial needs and provide relief for her mother.

    ~Self-Reflection and New Paths:

In 2021, Rebekka encountered a significant setback that made her question her abilities. A challenging order pushed her to her limits, resulting in three failed attempts before finally achieving an acceptable outcome. This experience left her questioning why she was failing at something she excelled in previously.

Rebekka Alfeus’s journey as an entrepreneur highlights the trials and triumphs of small business owners. From her early baking ventures to expanding into the cleaning agency, she exhibited resilience and an unwavering commitment to her dreams. Despite facing setbacks and periods of uncertainty, Rebekka’s determination enabled her to overcome challenges and provide for her family.

Namibian Beauty Is Not One Look

To speak of the beauty of Namibian women without speaking of their labor, leadership, humor, pain, and resilience would be incomplete. Beauty here is not passive. It farms, it protests, it nurtures, it remembers. It wears tradition not as costume, but as continuity. Namibian women are not beautiful despite their…

    QUEER SAFE SPACES

QUEER SAFE SPACES There’s something beautiful about how, in spite of the government’s vitriol and overt disregard for the rights of LGBTQ+ Namibians, there are certain individuals and organisations in the country who refuse to play by the government’s rules and have carved out safe spaces for queer people to…
