“ I had my manicure done yesterday and the next morning I woke up with a broken nail.”

Have you ever wondered why gel nails break easily? Well, keep reading to unmask that in full details.

So many people complain about gel nails breaking but, do they actually go the extra mile to find out what the real problem is? No! Just like other nail applications such as polygel and acrylic, gel nails have the possibility of lasting long when prepared and applied correctly.

For a reasonable structural upgrade, the most important elements are the apex, C-Curve, side walls, lower arch and upper arch. All these components must work together to ensure an enhanced longevity. If one element is incorrect or damaged, the entire structure will be damaged. The nail enhancements are designed to break under pressure, so as not to damage the natural nails underneath but, both the nail technician and the client can take some steps to ensure that this does not happen unnecessarily.

Over-filing the nail is one of the reason that causes nail breakage. Avoid shaping the nails too much, because over-filing can cause the nail tip to break.

The glue choice also plays a very big role. Using very strong glue can apply too much pressure on the nail causing it crack and eventually break.

Another reason is poor nail management, no matter how good a nail technician can be, many clients tend to be irresponsible when it comes to their nails. They often get comfortable and forget that it’s not their natural nails but, rather an extensions.

One secret to gel nails durability is coating them with clear acrylic powder. You do this by first doing all the necessary steps to prepare the nail. Thereafter you apply base coat, dip the nail in clear acrylic powder and then cure it in a UV/LED lamp. Repeat this step for two to three times, gently buff the nail, apply base coat, cure it in a lamp and then apply the desired color and then apply top coat. This method is very convenient because, it strengthens and increases the durability of your newly manicured nails.

Nail technician must ensure that they are creating reasonable improvements to suit the client’s lifestyle, and must provide the necessary maintenance and aftercare recommendations. The client is then after responsible for following the advice, and not using the nail as a tool.

Although the breakage of gel nails can be very annoying , nail technicians are usually willing to repair cracked or broken nails for free within a week after the manicure. There’s nothing wrong with asking.

And don’t forget to tip them out of courtesy!
